Teambuilding 2011

Last week, my company had organized the Teambuilding for the staff at Dusun Eco Resort, Bentong Pahang. Almost 10 years without actively involved in this activity, I felt so reluctant to go.

If in Uni time, you can name it all sorts of the teambuilding activities, in the jungle, mud, river and I never refuse to take part. Spending the nights in the tent in middle of the jungle, that was really trilled experience for me.

But now, for the first time ever, I don’t know what to pack.

Do I need to bring my short pants?

How about my make up?

My heels said they also want to follow!

I just realized that I don’t have a new track suit for the longggg time! So sudden, I don’t have everything that I can bring along (just a reason… I know!). After work, hubby accompanied me to Jusco for shopping. He bought me one track suit, hiking shoe and few t-shirts. Thank God that the new stuff makes me so excited to go.

There were many physical activities that we need to participate in. But I made it man! Clap clap clap for myself :)

Why my tummy soooooo BIG!!!!
I dont know why this pic turn like this hehehe

The best of the activity off course goes to Water rafting!! We had divided to 2 groups and tell you what, the other team had Rakit specialist and that’s why they had very nice and floating rakit compared to us. So unfair. You know lar, Sarawakian are use to build the rakit for their daily activity in the river. I should have learnt it from my Sarawak friend before I go.

To balanced the program, we were also had a worst and tiring activity. Can you imagine that we need to walk alone in the middle of the jungle and only given one small birthday candle to show the way? I end up thrown away the candle and confidently walked with long stick of wood like a blind man. Do you know that our eyes vision can be transformed well when you are in the dark?

Okay, exercise 1: Try to close your eyes about 2-5 minutes before you walk in the dark area (Are you trying now?)

Tadaaa you’ll surprise to see that your eyes can really change to suit your current surroundings. You can walk in the dark now! 5 marks for you!

Oh, I forget to tell you that my other team mates were waiting for me before we end up the night race together. Hehehehe.

The bonding arose during the program makes me realize that we don’t do this every day; 8 hours of time that we are spending every day in the office, we assume that’s enough to know each other very well. Try to exclude the individual work load, meeting & discussion time... how many hours we think left for us a day for this process?

If you have the chance or you have forced by your superior to participate in the teambuilding program, try not to run away or pretend that you have a slipped disk :). It may sound tiring and dirty but if you look at the bright side, there be more benefits than you can think.

ATV for a good cause on 9 Oct 2010

I had picked a red ATV bike suited to my pink helmet. I love it as it was really me. If they have pink ATV bike, for sure I am more than happy to grab it before others.

We were all really excited to ride it. My colleague even warned me to be careful and she was too scared if our accident story will be captured in the main page of Metro newspaper. So mean. We were about 21 of us and a few group of mutual friends. So we had a new activity with a new friend there.

We had divided to 3 groups and each group has 2 instructors to tag along. Before the ride, we had about 10 minutes briefing and 15 minutes trial ride. I had a lot of complexity to handle the big bike compared to other team mate. It wasn’t easy task as I thought to hold the big bike with my tiny hand and on the same time using the same hand to accelerate the pedal and another hand to control the speed, ouww. A few time I made a stopped and took a deep breath especially when the bike trying to climb up to the uneven road.

I almost cried at first and insisted not to go along with the rest of the teams. Luckily, the instructors so patient and he had even ride the bike with me for a few minutes just to increase my confident level. I was the first one who started the journey behind the instructor. The first means the weakest!

The opening trek was a small hill with uneven surface and I just wanted to turn back the moment I saw it. How if I fall during the ride? How about if my bike turns upside down due to uneven surface? How if I accelerate the pedal too fast and fall down from the hill? Too many questions were playing in my mind, and I reprimanded myself for being there.

But surprisingly, I told myself that I can do it. So, I accelerate the pedal, have power over the handle, control the speed and vrommmm…. Yes! I managed to reach to the peak and from that moment, I had the confident to ride it to the end. Nobody believes that the weakest participant reach the end before they do!

We stopped at Warisan Rimba for BBQ after ATV. Damn nice place.

For those who are panicky like me, take your sweet time to blend well with the bike. Once you ready, just believe to yourself and ride it confidently. Don’t scare to accelerate the pedal and don’t forget the break too, God created them for a reason. Stop thinking that you will fall down as there is no way the bike will be turn upside down except in fairy tales. The road surface in Malaysia is nothing for them. The most important thing, DO NOT put your leg down while you riding. If the bike means to fall, your leg will be the first victim. So save it before it’s too late.

2 week after the ATV ride

Reading email at office and spotted this: "Next staff activity will be ATV ride….."

Me: (Can’t finish off the sentences) Oh no! I had enough the mixture feeling when riding it. I keep thanking God that I am still alive till now!
